Fun with Your Puggle
Games Both Dog and Owner Will Enjoy

Playtime is essential for every dog and master relationship. To ensure that playtime is safe for both your Puggle and you, invest some time in an obedience course first. The key factor is that your Puggle understands the words stop, go, sit, and stay before venturing out into a park of strangers. With a little patience, the two of you can enjoy hours of fun together.

Puggle's Favorite Game

Tug-of-war is the most common game played between dog and master. An old sock is often the choice of toy, rather than a rope. Some experts believe it’s the owner’s scent on the sock that makes it so appealing to a Puggle. Think about it! What other game allows your dog to steal something that is yours

Veterinarians stress that playing tug-of-war with a sock presents a health risk. The sock loses small particles each time you play. These same particles can become lodged in your Puggle’s teeth or throat causing choking, irritation, and infection. Most veterinarians recommend playtime toys be purchased at your local pet store rather than home made.

At your local pet store, you can find a variety of toys. Some toys provide hours of chew time for your Puggle, while others are designed for training. Puggle pups love to play chase, hide and seek, and fetch. The more running and chasing you can introduce to the game the more excitement it creates.

Mature Play

Puggles adapt to their surroundings as they grow. For instance, if you live in a high-rise apartment your dog will tend to be more laid back as it matures, while those that have a back yard to romp around in stay more active. It’s unknown whether city life limits a Puggle’s life expectancy, but that may be the reason for the popularity of dog parks in the last decade.

Dog parks give city dog owners the opportunity to provide the same quality of life for their Puggle as those that live outside of the city. Each park is approximately 10 to 15 acres of land. Trees, shrubs, and trails make the area appealing to humans and pets.

Although there are some advantages to taking your dog for a walk in a dog park, there are also some disadvantages. Exposing your Puggle to other dogs increases the risk of disease. Some studies have shown that dog parks are the reason for high levels of the ‘dog flu’ in New York. The infected dog’s waste contains parasites, which can easily infect a healthy dog. To avoid infection, keep a leash on your Puggle while enjoying a walk in the park.

Leisure Play

No matter what age your Puggle is he or she will enjoy an evening of leisure by the TV set. TV programs can keep your dog entertained. Even though dogs are said to be colored blind and can only see in two dimensions, TV programs with action scenes or those related to nature will keep your Puggle’s eyes locked on the set.

Joining a Puggle association gives you a number of opportunities to visit with other Puggle owners. By providing this type of playtime, your dog learns how to socialize with other dogs. Veterinarians give doggie socials four stars.

Playtime builds a lasting bond between the two of you and that bond grows stronger with each loving cuddle you give your Puggle. Each time you toss your pup a treat for good behavior, pat his head, or rub his side, you’re expressing affection. Your Puggle will express his undying affection, and live a healthier, happier life if you invest the time.
